Abstract
While the ´war against terrorismª brings Saudi Arabia on the defensive, Russia seems to exploit that in order to strengthen its position in the world oil-market and in her conflict with the Chechens as well. However, on the one hand, the competition between the two countries for the shares of the energy market is intense, despite some efforts for co-operation. On the other hand, peculiar games with the Islamic terrorism seem perilous.
