*Heba Khalil has been working for the Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights in Cairo (ECESR), where she was deputy director until mid 2015 while now she is a researcher at the same centre. She is currently a PhD candidate at the department of sociology at the University of Illinois focusing on labour and social movements in Egypt and their historical and social origins. Her fields of interest also include rural and farmers' social mobilization in the Egyptian periphery. Her publications include Above the State: Multinational Corporations in Egypt, Cairo, ECESR. 2015, with Norhan Mokhtar, and Hatem Zayed and participation in the edited volume From the Local to the Global: Key Issues in Development Studies, published by Pluto Press in 2015.
