Lecture by Ambassador Akbar Ahmed: "Fostering Peace: Bridging the Gap Between the West and the Muslim World"

Don't miss leading anthropologist's and scholar of Islamic Studies, Ambassador Akbar Ahmed lecture that it's organised by British Council in collaboration with the Lambrakis Foundation and the Onassis Cultural Centre, on:

Where: Upper Stage, Onassis Cultural Centre, 107-109 Syngrou Avenue

The lecture takes place in the framework of Our Shared Future, which aims to investigate the contribution of different communities in the shaping of modern European culture and society, to achieve a culture without discrimination on the continent we share today. The programme presents international experiences and proposals on urban strategies for intercultural dialogue between local authorities, media, public bodies and civil society with a focus on participatory governance, correct information and mediation.

A few words about Ambassador Akbar Ahmed

Ambassador Akbar Ahmed is one of the world's foremost specialists on issues related to contemporary Islam. He is considered "the world's leading authority on contemporary Islam" by the BBC. He was the Pakistan High Commissioner (Ambassador) to the UK and Ireland and currently holds the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University in Washington, D.C. He is the author of over a dozen award-winning books. He is also a leading figure in intercultural and interfaith dialogue supporting the importance of building bridges between different civilizations, through a series of public dialogues focusing on dispelling hate and ignorance. For these efforts Ambassador Akbar Ahmed and Judea Pearl, were awarded the prestigious Purpose Prize in 2007. Ambassador Ahmed was also the recipient of the first Gandhi Center Fellowship of Peace Award in 2004.
